					FIVE MINUTES


     I spent an hour trying to save her life. Now, I have five minutes to say goodbye.

     What do you say in five minutes that you couldn't in six years? How do you say 'I
love you' when it no longer matters?

     I take her hand, clasping it to my heart. She opens her eyes.

     "I'm sorry," I tell her. "I can't do any more. I had to remove the symbiont."

     She smiles wearily. "I know. It's all right." But it's not.

    In a moment, I'll go get Worf. He'll be with her at the end, not me. Never me.
