It’s been a tough summer, so I’m way behind on my recaps and reviews. As of this review, I now have 51 episodes left to finish for previous seasons, plus the 20 for the final (15th) season that starts on October 10. That’s 71 total by next April. I currently have 149 coffees at $3 each on Ko-Fi (many thanks to those who have contributed so far!). If I get 300 coffees total, I will commit to doing one recap/review per week (retro or Season 15). If I get 400 coffees, I will commit to two. If I get 500 coffees, three reviews. If I get 600 coffees, four reviews. If I get 700 coffees, five reviews per week.

Other that that, any and all contributions are welcome! You can still find my reviews here of North Carolina ghost story books, and notes about my folklore research on Patreon.

My collected recaps and reviews of season one, which first appeared on Innsmouth Free Press, are up (with a few extras) on Kindle. The Kindle version is available through Amazon. The print version is also up. If you buy the print version, you get a Kindle copy thrown in for free. I also get paid if you get it on Kindle Unlimited (for free), read the Kindle version, or lend it to a friend via the Kindle Owners Lending Library. Reviews also help with sales. Just FYI.

Here are all my live recaps and reviews in one, handy-dandy spot, for Season 15.

  1. I watched the first two episodes of season 15 this morning. Your critique of the first one was right on the money. But I like to make sense of things, especially when I’m this invested.

I’ve abandoned the idea that Chuck is an imposter who is really the Empty Entity. Amara would have recognized the difference. Unless, of course, the Empty has always been part of Chuck’s total identity.

Amara and Chuck have a bit of a Sam and Dean vibe to them. Amara, like Dean, is angry, and dangerous, has a history of abuse and abandonment by a selfish younger sibling. Chuck is younger, narcissistic, happy to abandon Amara when it suits him, but wants her to fix things for him when he screws up.

Dean has been identified with Amara since season 11. I guess this shared injury between Sam and Chuck is meant to drive home their connection. So even if this new injury gives Sam new superpowers, etc, it won’t ultimately be enough to control Dean or Amara, whose strength is in going their own way.

No idea how this will play out. Possibly there will be another Michael/Lucifer reboot – since Michael was mentioned and the writers don’t seem terribly original at this point.

Oh, and Castiel did get a taste of his own medicine in his upset over Belphagor inhabiting Jack’s body. Now he should realize how upsetting it must have been for Claire all those years, seeing her Dad’s body being used. At least Belphagor didn’t act like he was doing something holy. I took a bit of pleasure in that.

    1. Unfortunately, with the current idiots in charge, they could do a whole lot of different things that wouldn’t make sense and would be unsatisfying. But I agree that it’s still fun to speculate.

Yeah, Amara was always more Dean-like. I hope the writers remember that she does have that connection with Dean, but so far, it’s not looking good.

  2. I happen to like Belphegor. I was tired of Jack, but thanks to the introduction of Belphegor, I can have my cake and eat it too. This situation reminds me of the replacement of Fred Burkle with Illyria in Angel.

I’m a bit puzzled why there are relatively few escapees from Hell roaming the earth, given that “every door opened up.” That has to amount to millions of souls, but the world at large doesn’t seem to be aware that there’s anything amiss. Can you explain this?

I’m looking forward to the return of Rowena in the next episode.

By the way, what does “CRD” stand for?

    1. Well, he’s an improvement on Jack and I don’t mind Calvert as an actor, so there’s that. I’m just not getting attached because the writers are clearly salty about the anti-Jack Sue sentiment and want to “punish” the fandom for it.

The idea that there should have been billions of souls out there was brought up, handwaved, and promptly forgotten. My impression is that we are supposed to think that all of the ghosts are currently stuck inside Belphegor’s magic town-sized circle. Really.

A CRD is a Cross Road Demon.
