Jennifer Morrison will not be returning as Emma Swan next season, though she did say she would be willing to return for a single episode. EW also has up an interview with the actress on her departure. Also departing are actors Josh Dallas, Ginnifer Goodwin, Emilie de Ravin, Jared S. Gilmore, and Rebecca Mader. It’s official! The show has been renewed for a 13th season. This may well be (by a couple of weeks) the earliest renewal Supernatural has ever received.

The show has moved to 8pm. Still on Thursdays.

The season finale is this week. There will be a double-feature of 12.22 and 12.23 this Thursday, 8-10pm.

Next week restarts the season with a double feature repeat of 12.01 and 12.02.

The Season 12 line-up (23 episodes) so far: “Keep Calm and Carry On” (12.01) official photos and press release; “Mamma Mia” (12.02) synopsis and photos; “The Foundry” (12.03) synopsis, official photos, sneak peek, and promo; “American Nightmare” (12.04) synopsis, official photos and promo; “The One You’ve Been Waiting For” (12.05) synopsis, promo and set photos; “Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox” (12.06) synopsis, photos and promo; “Rock Never Dies” (12.07) synopsis, photos and promo; “LOTUS” (12.08) synopsis, photos and promo; “First Blood” (12.09) synopsis, photos, promo and sneak peek, as well as an extended promo; “Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets” (12.10) (this is the one with Alicia Witt) synopsis, photos and promo, and sneak peek; “Regarding Dean” (12.11) tech survey card, synopsis, set photo, promo and official photos; “Stuck in the Middle (With You)” (12.12) tech survey card, synopsis, preliminary photo (this one’s directed by Richard Speight Jr.), and official photos and promo; “Family Feud” (12.13) synopsis; “The Raid” (12.14) tech survey card, synopsis, and promo and official photos; “Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell” (12.15) tech survey card, synopsis, official photos and promo; “Ladies Drink Free” (12.16) tech survey card, synopsis, photos, sneak peeks, and promo; “The British Invasion” (12.17) synopsis, photos, mini-doc, promo and tech survey card; “The Memory Remains” (12.18) tech survey card, synopsis, photos, promo, sneak peek, and title; “The Future” (12.19) tech survey card and partial title card, showing the director is Amanda Tapping, and the writers are Robert Berens and Meredith Glynn, and synopsis and promo, sneak peek, and photos; “Twigs & Twine & Tasha Banes” (12.20) tech survey card, showing Richard Speight Jr. returning to direct and synopsis; “There’s Something About Mary” (12.21) synopsis, photos and promo, tech survey card, and directed by John Showalter; and “Who We Are” (12.22) and “All Along the Watchtower” (12.23 – season finale) synopsis, photos and promo, tech survey card, and directed by Robert Singer and written by Andrew Dabb (these last two episodes will air the same night).

Photos and the promo for “Who We Are” (12.22) and “All Along the Watchtower” (12.23) are out. Warning: The photos are massively spoilery, especially paired with the promo, and pretty much give most of 12.22 away.

There’s a brief interview with Andrew Dabb in print that’s now up online.

I’ve moved my Official live recaps to this site and simul-recapping at Wayward Friends, with reviews to follow.

Ratings for “There’s Something About Mary” (12.21) dropped again in audience to 0.5/2 and 1.42 million respectively. Programming Insider reported that the show got a 0.4/2 in A18-34, 0.5.2 in A18-49, and 0.6/2 in A18-54, and 1.420 million viewers.

There was also a lot of negative reaction on social media, especially Twitter. A hashtag calling on the show to fire the episode’s writers (who are also currently executive producers) trended for a while the same night the episode aired.

  1. Dean should have given the rallying speech although it was refreshing for Sam to own up to his mistake and not shift any blame onto Dean.

I thought Dean not only surviving the blast at such close quarters but getting outside to turn on the air before Sam could even look for him is suspicious …
    Is it possible he’s Dean!incognito-Michael.

  2. Watching Labyrinth for the first time and absolutely creeper out by the casting of teenaged Jennifer Connolly and David Bowie, knowing what I know about his predilection for deflowering virginal teens.

    1. Punctuates what I have been thinking about Dabbler as show runners. He’s all about hooks. No substance.

    2. That sounds awful. Dabb’s being besieged from all over social media about how the writing has gone downhill and that’s what we get from the upfronts? He needs to go.

Not least because that episode that was supposed to be like a Warners Bros cartoon sucked and didn’t deliver (we couldn’t even get cartoon birds around Dean’s head? C’mon).

      1. Like Snow White….lol.
Their comedic episodes are often gems however if this is what comes out of the upfronts… and it doesn’t appear as if anything happens tonight either. Yeah they rescue Mary I guess… and she will be even more epically damaged. Yeah maybe Naphiletus becomes a full blown Naphil.
        Ugh.
I confess I am a bit anxious for tonight. I just watched it all over so I can pretend Carver is coming back. Hopefully Jensen had one of his meetings in LA to get the show back on course.

      2. I liked that episode. The actual anvil dropping and all… and Castiel’s dialogue with the cat. It was no great shakes of course. This season it would be comparable to Shakespeare.

I am having trouble seeing out of one eye because of a migraine. I probably will not miss much.

  3. Oh one other thing: the characters of Roy and Walt appeared in DSotM; this week when we are doing the invasion-of-the-Brits-inner-sanctum the actor that played Walt is a hunter character named Walt and I gather it is the SAME Walt who blew Sam and Dean away.

Looking forward to how that plays out.

    1. Where did you see that Walt was coming back?

I guess he’s a redshirt. It would be a huge mistake to bring him back and not kill him off. Then again, the morality of this season has been pretty messed up.

      1. There was a discussion of the next episode on forums.previously.tv/forum/284-supernatural/ within the last day.

I don’t think they linked to anything from any show saying he was on.

I think I would’ve preferred Roy because Walt was the dude who killed both of them.

ALSO reading speculation about S/D getting killed by Lucifer but I have to wonder if when Chuck ‘fixed’ it so Luci could not hurt them at the end of last season they might not be vulnerable to Luci’s ‘mojo’ at all. I could not figure out why Vince!Lucifer did not kill them at the rock venue and that was what I came up with. Luci was melting but he was ‘still’ plenty powerful and all he did was “whine” about his dad ditching him. BTW I really like Rick Springfield’s Luci, he really got to the whiny pathos. And the uncaring evil.

        1. You do see that Roy and Walt didn’t know the Winchesters were the heroes of the story. They were trying to prevent the Apocalypse. I get killing Sam. For me killing Dean was over the top but I guess they felt Dean would seek vengeance. Until this season the other American hunters that we saw were black and white in their ethics. For instance they killed all vamps and they killed rugurus (sp) before they turned.
In contrast because the Winchesters were in the thick of things they had the opportunity to see supernatural beings more intimately and developed shades of grey ethics. At least Dean has. Sam was sympathetic because he needed to believe being supernatural was not a licence to kill. It definitely helps with Sam if you are cute and female too. And if Sam is feeling pissy and jealous because you are too close to Dean he will try to kill you even if you are a good monster or demon.

      2. I checked on IMDB.com: they listed the characters/actors for Episode 22 and Nels Lennarson was listed as Walt. I clicked his name and saw he played the bartender in About a Boy (the guy who stole Dean’s stuff when Hansel ‘took’ him) AND he played Walt in Dark Side of the Moon.

So yeah, that’s the murderous Walt.

          1. I did not know that; I thought a show’s publicist did that.

How would anybody have the ability to do that? I mean people can still write ‘user-reviews’ (but I have noticed there aren’t so many doing that anymore)….I admit I don’t know anything about that.

    1. Yeah, they start banging out the general outline of the new season about this time. It’ll still be pretty vague until around the time of Comic-Con (mid-July). They test out the general idea of the season on the fandom at that con.

  4. I am excited for Thursday night. It’s like I hated Season 9 (which is what TNT is showing this week) but was absolutely moved by the finale. I liked almost ALL of Season 11 but agree with you that the finale was weak (because there was no guiding force I felt at the helm at the end) and people just showed up and gave ‘lines.’ (Like ‘what’ was up with Crowley at the end there?)

I will do a full season re-watch next week probably.

  5. The link that you provided does not connect to Dabbler’s interview.
I hope that the low ratings will not be construed as a problem with Mary. I find her interestIng. The character and actress are fully capable of anchoring a spin-off in my opinion. The problem is very bad writing.
Was Eileen’s death the catalyst for the firing hashtag? Lord knows that the Nepotism Duo have written far worse episodes and in fact, the writing this season is so bad that their episodes no longer stand out as being horrible in comparison.

    1. The article is in a print magazine. The link goes to tweet containing a screecap someone did of the article.

I’m hoping they won’t write Mary out, either, but they do seem to take all the wrong lessons from fandom, sometimes. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they killed off Mary, Rowena *and* Jody, but we were stuck with Dabb, Singer and the Bobbsey Twins next season. I hope that won’t be true, but the show needs some kind of serious intervention from the network to get things back on track.
