Supernatural (Thursday nights, 8pm, CW)

It’s official! The show has been renewed for a 13th season. This may well be (by a couple of weeks) the earliest renewal Supernatural has ever received.

The show is moving to 8pm when it comes back tomorrow night.

The Season 12 line-up (23 episodes) so far: “Keep Calm and Carry On” (12.01) official photos and press release; “Mamma Mia” (12.02) synopsis and photos; “The Foundry” (12.03) synopsis, official photos, sneak peek, and promo; “American Nightmare” (12.04) synopsis, official photos and promo; “The One You’ve Been Waiting For” (12.05) synopsis, promo and set photos; “Celebrating the Life of Asa Fox” (12.06) synopsis, photos and promo; “Rock Never Dies” (12.07) synopsis, photos and promo; “LOTUS” (12.08) synopsis, photos and promo; “First Blood” (12.09) synopsis, photos and promo, as well as an extended promo; “Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets” (12.10) (this is the one with Alicia Witt) synopsis; “Regarding Dean” (12.11) tech survey card, synopsis and photo; “Stuck in the Middle (With You) (12.12) tech survey card and photo (this one’s directed by Richard Speight Jr.); “Family Feud” (12.13); “The Raid” (12.14) tech survey card; “Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell” (12.15) tech survey card; and “Unnamed Episode” (12.16) tech card.

The synopsis for “Regarding Dean” (12.11) is up:

SUPERNATURAL 12.11 “Regarding Dean”: Sam (Jared Padalecki) enlists Rowena’s (guest star Ruth Connell) help to track down an old world, powerful family of witches after Dean (Jensen Ackles) gets hit by a spell that is rapidly erasing his memory. John Badham directed the episode written by Meredith Glynn.

There’s a new interview out with the current showrunners, in which they double down on the LoL and Lucifer Baby Daddy storylines. Because those have been so popular with the fandom [/sarcasm]. In addition, it seems we haven’t actually yet met the much-ballyhooed Mr. Ketch, who will be recurring for our sins, starting this week.

There’s another Shaving People, Punting Things video out.

The CW has a new midseason sizzle reel out.

The show won in its category for the People’s Choice Awards, though Jensen Ackles did not.

The second con in Jacksonville, FL was last weekend. Video for the morning Gold panel is up.

Jim Michaels teased that episode 12.16 will end on a cliffhanger. Hopefully, that cliffhanger won’t suck like the one for “LOTUS.” The episode will be directed by new director Aymn Kaderali. On the tech card, Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb have reappeared as mysteriously as they disappeared a tech card or two before.

There’s a new interview with show creator Eric Kripke in the print version of TV Guide.

Rerun ratings for “LOTUS” (12.08) held the course in demo at 0.3/1 and 0.86 million.

In Live+7 ratings, the first “LOTUS” airing rose from 0.6 to 1.1 and from 1.734 to 2.804 million.

  1. I meant that the BMOL betray Mary in some way and the brothers have to intervene to save Mary. That is what I ‘get’ out of the future episode precis.

I am watching Season 6 beginning on TNT today; I was wondering about one thing: Jared the Actor ‘knew’ that Sam the Character was SOULLESS and was playing it nicely IMO. (Jared said he had Sam walking left arm-left leg, right arm-right leg — not left arm-right leg, right arm-left leg like regular people; once I knew he was doing that I could ‘see’ how it made Sam sorta-kinda not ‘normal’.) So was Jensen the Actor also informed every step of the way that Sam was Soulless because Dean the Character was physically so clueless.

Hope you are having a nice morning.

    1. Jared Padalecki said he didn’t know, originally, what was wrong with Sam and that once he did, the writers didn’t seem to know how to write him. Hence the inconsistent portrayal of Soulless Sam.

  2. I liked last night’s episode but ONE thing bugged: why kill all the SS agents and the poor doctor? THAT made no sense.

IF it makes sense to Mr Fletch, shouldn’t he be going after the previously possessed President?

Because I cannot figure out the BMOL rationale here…within their logic I ‘get’ why he killed poor Magda. But just having interaction with The Winchesters? That makes no sense.

I liked the episode more than you do; I ‘had’ thought Mick at least wasn’t a f*cktard but it appears he is ‘down’ with all the tangential killing, so screw him too, even if he is a nice guy.

I am glad that by episode 12 they are betraying Mary. I ‘get’ she wants OUT. I can’t imagine being that good at a job I hate. She “is” that good. Why isn’t she trying to be The New Bobby? Stay home with her sons and do back-up.

Now I am afraid that what will ‘tear’ everything between Our Boys and the BMOL is that they go after Garth and his family. (I know the actor is on Z-Nation — and I like him on that show — but he ‘could’ do a one-spot. Anyway, I like Bess and her dad.) ALSO I get your issue with the supposedly-monster-free England because, hello GHOSTS AND DEMONS. Remember Bella/Abby made her demon-deal in the time ‘after’ the BMOL said England was ‘supernatural-free.’

    1. I’d like to believe there is some complex rationale going behind the LoL wanting in on the supernatural action in the U.S., but I think the writing is too clumsy for that. It’s probably just a naked territory grab spurred by what they perceived as a power vacuum in the wake of the thing with Amara.

I thought the episode was okay, certainly better than that crap ep “LOTUS” before it. I just wish Dabb were less clumsy at plotting and less lazy at basic real-world research.

I haven’t heard that the Brothers betray Mary, but I have heard that Smith is still filming at this point in time. I would rather they not get betrayed by the Campbell side of the family again. That sucked the first couple of times.

  3. What do you think of The Magicians? I watched four episodes today (including season premiere) and was confused but I enjoyed it.

Saw some people who have been on Supernatural in passing. Always enjoy seeing actors ACT, you know (some really different parts — there was a woman who played a housekeeper in Family Remains and a housekeeper again in Bad Boys and she was a kind of snooty rich person!).

    1. I caught maybe two episodes and gave up halfway through the second one. Unlikeable characters being stupid. Boring, pointless plotting. Bottom of the barrel Syfy.

The guy who played the Alpha Vamp is (or was) a major character on the show.
